Fuego

Fuego (in this most recent iteration) is a BBQ and Grill restaurant in the Waterways Shopping Center in Aventura.  The food is good, albeit inconsistent and fairly expensive, the service varies too, and the place can be absolutely packed during prime tourist weeks.  That being said, it happens to be a fun experience - which is why so many people crowd into the place.  It is fairly large, and has an even larger outdoor seating area that is totally delightful when the weather is nice.  Motzei Shabbos in the winter is a good time to go, as there is usually a free concert going on outside.

The restaurant has a brick pizza oven for making the meat flatbreads.  It also serves a huge list of alcoholic cocktails, despite not having a license to sell liquor (all cocktails are wine-based).  The smoked food is very good flavor-wise, but sometimes dry.  Steaks are overpriced and not the highest quality of meat/preparation.  The best bet on the menu are the appetizers, burgers, and sandwiches.  The accompanying sauces are very tasty and highly recommended, especially the cilantro mayo.  Our favorite dish on the menu was recently removed: the Pabellon Criollo.  While this is a disappointment, you can recreate part of this Venezualan specialty by ordering pulled brisket and the sides of rice and beans and maduros.

During vacation weeks, this place becomes a New York tourist hotspot.  The staff doesn't treat all equal.  During these weeks, assuming that you're from out of town, the staff will serve you substandard food, with slow and not-very-attentive service.  Even locals start to blend in with the New Yorkers, and get the bad service too.  While it is a shame, there is an easy way to avoid: go during an off-week!
